Registration for the College Expedition Program closes Sunday evening at 11:59PM PT.
What about you?
Do you dread the planning, legwork, and nagging that you'll have to do in order to get your teen to apply to college?
Do you try not to bring up college topics at home to avoid arguments?
Do you wish your teen was genuinely excited about their college options and next steps -- instead of overwhelmed and stressed by everything they need to do?
It's daunting to manage your teen's college process!
When and how do you start? Will you have to nag? How much arguing will there be?
You're going to need to become an expert.
Your time is valuable. Get ready to put in the hours and legwork to learn all about college options, financial aid, and the application process.
Your teen is anxious and needs help.
Your teen is feeling lonely, drained, and scared, not sure where to start or what to do next. When they take action, they wonder if their work is good enough, or if they're making mistakes. I know this because I used to be in that same position.
Students can have an exciting experience discovering colleges and achieving milestones, if all of the structure and guidance is in place.
I'm now on a mission to share this amazing reality with all the students I possibly can.
When I applied to college as a teen, I was driven to exhaustion trying to do everything on my own. I was sleep deprived and on the verge of collapsing most of the time. I really scared my parents, to say the least.
Getting into a top college (Johns Hopkins) actually didn't make that experience more worthwhile. In fact, now I know how unnecessary my stress and suffering really were.
What was it like for me?
At the beginning, I downloaded every free guide on the internet. That gave me a lot to learn and do, and more information (and misinformation) to make sense of. I spent a lot of time trying to sort through it all, up until the very end, which made me feel confused and scared of making mistakes when I worked.
I changed my college list at least ten times because I didn't have a connection with the schools beyond their rankings.
In the end, I was scrambling to finish the work during winter break. I stayed up late writing essays, but then rewriting them because they were never good enough. When I pressed submit, I felt scared and desperate, wondering if I had done a good job and if I was even worthy of success.
I have pushed myself for years to become an expert in colleges so that my families don't have to teach themselves.
And, I created the College Expedition Group to add a community element to the experience, to emphasize the journey and allow students to relate to each other in the process.
In a small group of energetic peers, your teen will conduct a thorough college search (incorporating financial aid) and complete their applications thoroughly and successfully according to a timeline of milestones they'll celebrate.
They'll finish strong and confidently well before their friends at school, as all College Expedition students finish before winter break so they can relax with their families.
The program will meet in regular sessions through December 15th of senior year to complete applications, with a few sessions in the spring to guide students to compare financial aid awards and select a school. All students receive asynchronous support, meaning consistent essay feedback and edits.
The program is designed to offer the exact same results as one-one college consulting, but in a group format.
The comprehensive program curriculum guides students through the entire college process, with an expert personalizing all the topics for the individual students in the room.
I guide students through important phases of the process: personal inventories and college major discovery, college search, application strategy, college applications and essays.
You'll get your best college list. I will give my curated college recommendations, including financial aid factors, with all college lists approved and finalized.
I review all materials for the college application and give feedback. I support with ALL essays through all the phases, brainstorming to revision to editing.
You'll get full access to my resources, including organizers, templates, videos, replays of our group sessions, and my on-demand courses like To Test or Not and Craft Compelling UC Essays.
Your teen will have access to an expert who cares about and connects with them.
Students get full support with all UC and CSU schools, as well as nine additional schools.
If your teen is starting in 10th grade or 9th grade (or earlier), that's a VERY good thing. There's an option for you too, where they'll get a personalized one-one program to bridge into their College Expedition group in spring of 11th grade. The best of both worlds!
... at a can't-miss price!
I have laid out the best timeline for your teen to complete every milestone in order to finish their college applications before winter break.
Your teen will use tried-and-true tools and strategies to complete tasks confidently and smoothly... yes, including those stressful college essays.
In the group program, your teen will achieve milestones in an energetic and supportive cohort of peers. It's not only fun and feel-good, but it reinforces accountability.
But to take advantage of it, you'll have to make a decision this weekend. Registration closes Sunday.
There are limited spots in the group for every class year, because I want to keep it small.
If your teen is in 8th-10th grade, this is your chance to secure a spot in the College Expedition Program for your child's year at the current price, which WILL DEFINITELY go up in the future.
If you're the parent of an 11th grader, it's now or never! Registration closes on Sunday because we need to start the process right away.
BONUS: 4x one-one meetings for you and your teen
I run the College Expedition Group comprehensively so that most students won't need to schedule any one-one meetings for extra support. But, for your total assurance, I provide FOUR 20-minute one-one meetings you can use if you feel you need them. You can use these for student meetings, family meetings, or parent phone calls... whatever you like.
BONUS: Summer Programs and Summer Planning
Summer opportunities seem to contain endless possibilities -- and that's overwhelming. Great news, I know tons of reputable summer programs and can help your teen apply to the best ones for them. And, even if you don't apply to summer programs, I can help your teen plan purposeful summers that will give them lots to talk about on their applications.
BONUS: Senior Spring Support
Of course I'm going to help you make sense of your results and choose a school! But I'm also going to meet you to help you understand and compare your competing financial aid awards. I'll help you write waitlist letters and discuss appeals, if you're thinking of one. And anything else that's on your mind after applications. Not to mention, a fun acceptance party to celebrate your results with the group community.

HOW WILL MY TEEN'S EXPERIENCE BE PERSONALIZED IN THE GROUP?
In the session, I share my college expertise, and students apply it to their own personal paths in the group discussion and their individual action steps. Outside the session, I review assignments and materials asynchronously to give students individual feedback away from the group.
WHAT IF MY TEEN HAS A SCHEDULE CONFLICT?
I communicate with all the students from the beginning to find a time that works for the whole group. Fortunately, all sessions are recorded to the online platform, so your teen can always review them later if they miss a session.
WILL MY TEEN FIT INTO THE GROUP?
Even introverted students succeed in the College Expedition Program. We get to know each other and create a safe place of support together.
HOW BIG WILL THE GROUP BE?
I aim for my groups to be close-knit, where students know each other and feel open to speaking and sharing. If the group gets too big, I split it in half to create two groups.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE GROUP MEET?
The group will always meet at least twice per month until winter break. As application season (late summer and fall) approaches, the group will meet 3-4x per month.
WHO REVIEWS MY TEEN'S ESSAYS?
A College Torch consultant (me) reviews all essays. Students are encouraged to share some of their work and progress in the sessions so the group can learn from each other, but no one is required to share.
WILL ROBERT SUPPORT WITH FINANCIAL AID?
Yes, as it relates to the college process. I use a financial aid questionnaire to gather the information I need to make college list recommendations tailored toward financial aid goals. However, College Torch does not offer services related to financial advising (reviewing financial documents) or a private scholarship search.
WILL TEENS AND PARENTS BE ABLE TO ASK THEIR QUESTIONS?
Yes! Students and parents can send their questions to me, and I answer everyone's questions at once in a regular Q&A video uploaded to the online platform. For quicker and time-sensitive questions, students can send a message in the group chat. And, if you feel you need a one-one student meeting or parent call, you have 4 20-minute one-one meetings to use for this.
